I'm a sucker for a vista

I think that spiritually, the difference between this

Looking north up the Connecticut River from the Mt. Toby fire tower, July 11, 2004

and this

Lighthouse at the Cuckolds, off Newagen, July 17, 2004

is that for the first, I had to walk a mile or so up Mount Toby and wait my turn to climb the fire tower, whereas the second sort is available more or less constantly from the time one heads out nearly anywhere in the Gulf of Maine.

You are so not helping my usual hard-core Maine withdrawals.

But thank you for the fix :)

Maine is one of the few states I haven’t been to, and looking at your photo sure makes me regret that. I’m sure it would quickly rise to the top of the “state I’d most like to live in, but don’t” list (#1 position currently held by VA).

I should note, for clarity, that Mt. Toby (the first picture) is in Sunderland, about eight miles from Amherst, in Massachusetts.

Newagen is so postcardy it’s almost a cliche… but I think my father likes it because it takes some care and skill to go through the harbor instead of weathering the Cuckolds.
