Etiquette question

(OK, I’m a clueless geek.)

What’s an appropriate thank-you for the people who are writing (have written; I’ve got a big packet on my desk) me letters of recommendation for my applications?

A thank you note, and possibly a small gift—cookies, chocolates, a cool office accessory. I know someone who gave her recommendation writers a rubber stamp and an ink pad. Unless you asked them to write an enormous number of recs, something under $5 or homemades is perfectly appropriate.

I agree - keep it small and tasteful, but definitely hand write the note, even if your writing is atrocious.

Just a note, Parker. Unless you are close to them personally like an “go out for lunch” kinda close. Keep it simple and professional. Hand written on nice stationery is good. I don’t think that you need to give them anything else. YMMV.

I didn’t give any thank you gifts, but I figure I will send them all a thank you note once the process is over & I know where I’m going. One of my recommenders I’m closer to, so the next time she & I went out for dinner I picked up the bill.
