At a loss

I got a birth announcement today, from a longtime friend, of her second son. I’m happy for her, of course, but I have a problem.

I have a stock present which I send to new parents, a particular book which was a favorite of my nieces. The problem is that I can’t remember if I’ve already sent the new arrival’s older brother a copy, in which case I’d need to hunt up an alternate (and I don’t remember which of my nieces’ many other books get such an enthusiastic response. Maybe this, which was a favorite of my own?)

I love giving books as gifts - such a great thing to do! My personal favorites: “I’ll Fix Anthony” by Judith Viorst. Hilarious. “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. I read this one over and over as a kid.

Some other thoughts: “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Joffe Numeroff. “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith Viorst “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” by Judi Barrett “Corduroy” by Don Freeman

Hmmm… maybe I need to have a kiddy of my own just so I can read all these great books again! ;-) Good luck!

Excellent choices, both. I personally love to send The Sleep Book by Dr. Seuss. It was a favorite of mine and a babysitting staple—great for getting little ones to settle down and go to sleep at night. Other favorites for very little kids: The Snowy Day, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Make Way for Ducklings, among many others.
