He wasn't there to make an arrest

As we ran through Harvard this morning, I heard a funny sort of racheting click and looked up to see a campus policeman at the top of the steps into a building we were running past, locking his bike to a rail.

With handcuffs.

Awesome! I see two advantages in using handcuffs: they’re probably harder to break than U-locks, and they indicate to would-be thieves that this particular bike is owned by a cop and thus is not an optimal target.
