And in good news...

…no stories about doping so far this year. And the reporter who was writing the “no doping stories this year” article a few years ago did a story about how the U.S. men are getting internationally competitive in distance running, i.e. a positive story. We’ll take ‘em where we get ‘em.

P, Your story about Deatherage from a few days ago really gets to the crux of the problem in our sport, when the local paper won’t make a bet with couple of hundred dollars on a “local athlete makes good” story, we have a crisis, not just in running, but in journalism as well. How many people in the Twin Cities watched her career as teammates, competitors, or just fans and will be deprived of seeing anything more that a couple of column inches because the paper won’t make that bet? How many young girls won’t choose to run cross-country because they didn’t see a story on a local star? In many ways this points out why “minor sports” don’t draw.
